Statement

Born in 1990 in Daejeon, South Korea
Lives and works in Nîmes, France

I am a South Korean born visual artist who has been living in Nîmes since 2016.

Before coming to France, I graduated from Daejeon Arts High School in 2008. After two years of military service, to earn my living, I started in 2011 to sell, in the streets of Seoul, products such as smartphone covers, notebooks, and also paintings. There, I noticed the amount of urban waste and observed old people collecting papers and garbage in the street to sell them by weight to private waste disposal centers. They work for themselves, are poor and very numerous, they constitute a social class. Meeting these people inspired my practice, I was asking myself how to find my artistic materials and how to process them.

Then, some encounters led me to come and study in France, especially in the south. I arrived in Paris in 2014 and spent two years learning French while pursuing my artwork. During the summer of 2015, I organized a performative project for which I drew homeless people and urban pigeons, while living and sleeping like them in the streets of Paris. Then in 2016, enrolled in first year at the École supérieure des beaux-arts de Nîmes, since then, I continue to live and work there.
